AHPRA-registered pharmacists Personalised dosing Australia-wide delivery

We provide compounded medications for veterinary use, prepared by our pharmacists in accordance with a valid prescription from a registered veterinarian.

Animals often require tailored treatment approaches due to differences in species, size, metabolism, and behaviour. Standard commercially available medications may not always meet these specific needs, particularly where dosing precision, administration challenges, or ingredient sensitivities are involved.

Understanding Veterinary Needs

Veterinary patients present unique considerations that can impact medication suitability and adherence, including:

  • Species-specific dosing requirements
  • Variation in size and weight across patients
  • Challenges with administration (e.g. difficulty swallowing tablets)
  • Palatability requirements to support compliance
  • Sensitivity to certain excipients

Therapeutic decisions and prescribing must always be determined by the treating veterinarian.

When Might Compounding Be Considered?

A veterinarian may consider compounded medications where:

  • A specific strength or dose is not commercially available
  • A patient requires an alternative dosage form
  • Palatability needs to be improved to support administration
  • Certain ingredients must be excluded
  • A medicine is unavailable or discontinued
  • Therapy requires individualised adjustment over time

Treatment Approaches

Management of veterinary conditions may include:

  • Pharmacological treatment prescribed by a veterinarian
  • Ongoing monitoring and dose adjustments
  • Supportive care based on the animal’s condition

Compounded medications may be prescribed when an individualised treatment approach is clinically appropriate.

How Compounding Can Help

  • Customised strengths tailored to species and weight
  • Alternative dosage forms to assist administration
  • Flavoured formulations to improve acceptance
  • Combination preparations where clinically indicated
  • Exclusion of specific excipients

Available Dosage Forms

  • Oral liquids or suspensions
  • Flavoured preparations
  • Capsules
  • Topical formulations
  • Transdermal preparations (where appropriate)

Safety and Quality

At our pharmacy, compounded veterinary medications are prepared in accordance with professional compounding standards.

  • Ingredients are sourced from reputable suppliers that meet Australian quality standards
  • Formulations are prepared in line with recognised compounding references or prescriber instructions
  • Each preparation undergoes pharmacist verification prior to supply
  • Standardised processes are followed to support consistency, quality, and accuracy

Compounded veterinary medications are not TGA-registered like commercially available products. For this reason, it is important they are prepared by an experienced and appropriately trained compounding pharmacy.
